With business experience in more than 40 countries and travel to over 70, Mr. Guarino brings both unique perspective and practical insight to the benefit of growing businesses. He has held numerous leadership positions in international business development and strategic planning in a variety of industries in the US, Europe and Latin America- both in corporate management and as an entrepreneur.
In his roles in sales and international business development at Bose Corporation, he worked directly to create and execute effective marketing and sales distribution strategies. His responsibilities included identifying and managing distribution relationships as well as assisting in launching local subsidiary and direct retail investments for the Massachusetts-based company in Latin America. During his tenure, export sales to these markets increased more than ten-fold.
In addition to his corporate experiences, Mr. Guarino is also an accomplished entrepreneur who brings real-world expertise to clients. In 2001 Mr. Guarino opened the first independently owned showroom in the US for the leading luxury Italian design firm Arclinea. Under his direction, the company grew from modest beginnings to receive national and international recognition for its work in the design and architectural sectors. Mr. Guarino mentored new investors and led the multi-channel branding and business development of the Italian firm throughout the US until launching Elementi Consulting in 2009.
His extensive experience in the luxury goods, digital media, consumer electronics and consumer products industries is complemented by additional engagements in the banking (Citicorp) and non-profit (World Wildlife Fund) sectors.
Mr. Guarino graduated from Harvard College in 1992 with an A.B. in Government (International Relations) cum laude, where he was also the recipient of the John Harvard and Harvard College awards for academic achievement. He received a Masters in Business Administration from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1998 with a specialization in Entrepreneurial Management. He also completed adjunct studies in International Relations at the Universidad de Belgrano in Buenos Aires, Argentina (1990) and in business administration at the SDA Bocconi in Milan, Italy (1997).
He is a passionate speaker on the topic of entrepreneurship and international affairs and he has been a panelist at numerous industry and trade events. He has been published in Banker and Tradesman and profiled by Boston Business Journal and the Boston Globe. The Wall Street Journal, Robb Report, Design New England, Il Sole 24 Ore and more have featured his work. He has been interviewed by the Boston-based news programs Chronicle and Sunday with Liz Walker and by the RAI International television networks as well as in the New York Times, Chicago Tribune and the Los Angeles Times, among others. In 2006, Mr. Guarino was named finalist for the Massachusetts Small Business Person of the Year, awarded by the US Small Business Administration.
Mr. Guarino is fluent in five languages (English, French, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese) and is an avid- and intrepid- traveler.
Mr. Guarino is a member of the Wharton Clubs of Boston and Zurich, the Harvard Business School Association of Boston, AIM (Associated Industries of Massachusetts International Committee) and “The Board,” which is a select group of young Boston-area leaders dedicated to the advancement of effective leadership and corporate responsibility. In 2011, Mr. Guarino was named a “Connector” of Boston World Partnerships, an initiative of Boston’s Mayor Thomas Menino to strengthen and promote Boston’s economy and international links.
